The Very Words of God

We study Scripture, commit it to memory, live it out, and put all of our hope and faith in it.  Scripture is the foundation on which the Christian religion is based.  It is the story of Jesus Christ.  From Genesis to Revelation, it all points to Christ.  His life, death, resurrection, and return.

But how do we know it is true?  How do we know that the Bible is composed of the actual words of God?  How do we know that that the Bible is God breathed?  How can we be certain?

How would you answer these questions?  Let's look at some possible responses and then I will share with you how I KNOW that the Word(s) of God are the words of God.

To begin, let's look at the Bible itself.  The Bible is not a book, it is series of books and letters.  The Bible is composed of 66 different books.  It was written as 66 individual pieces of work by 40 different authors.  The individual authors themselves were also from different backgrounds.  Occupations of the physical authors of the Bible include: shepherd, king, farmer, tax collector, fishermen, tent maker, physician, prophets and apostles.  The Bible was written over a span of more than 2,000 years.  It was written on 3 different continents.  It was penned in 3 different languages.

Further, as I posted earlier here, there were eyewitness present that could have debunked Christianity when the Gospels and some of Paul's letters were written.

Scripture is full of prophesy.  Prophesy that was written hundreds of years before Christ that was fulfilled in his birth, life, death, and resurrection.  These prophets were vessels that God used to tell of His coming; to proclaim the "good news" before the good news became flesh.  The prophesies about Christ have been fulfilled.

Personal testimony is a strong argument for the validity of Scripture and its influence on human life.  For hundreds of years Christians have testified to the power in Scripture.  Testifying that it acts on their life and in their life.

In conclusion, Scripture is true not because one of these things exists but because they all exist.  Scripture should not be trusted just because it is historically accurate, or because it all agrees with itself, or because eyewitnesses testify to it, or because prophesies have been fulfilled, or personal testimonies confirm its power.  Scripture is true because all of these things are exist.  All of these things together and nothing less or more point toward Scripture being the actual words of God.

What we are left with is a God breathed biography of Christ.
